2010 Blue Light Ride Cancelled
VPMSC Blue Light Ride
The tradition of the Blue Light Ride began in 1975. Over the years the original format changed into the event that was "Australia's most popular trail ride" and was nominated as the "the only one-day ride to make it into the top 10 rides in Australia" by Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine.
Responsible riders realise that the actions of a few thoughtless individuals reflect on the rest of us, and put the future of off-road riding at risk. This is why in recent years the Blue Light Ride has promoted the safety, health, and compliance factors which are the key factors in ensuring the survival of this lawful pastime.
The VPMSC is well known throughout the Australian Motor Cycling industry and it is acknowledged as an organisation, whose members are all volunteers, that is clean and green, and capable of successfully running large events. The club is proud of its many outstanding achievements and benchmarks that it has set as a result of the Blue Light Ride.
Tragically the VPMSC has not been able to identify a suitable loop in the traditional home of the Blue Light Ride this year in line with the requirements imposed by the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Shire of Baw Baw and Vicroads. In an attempt to keep the ride alive, an alternate venue was sought but unfortunately the VPMSC have been unsuccessful in obtaining all of the relevant permits required for such an event at an alternate location.
The VPMSC already is looking at options for 2011 to keep the tradition alive and to set new benchmarks for events of this type, whilst remaining the leader in the promotion of lawful and safe riding.
On a personal note, it has been extremely difficult for me as the President of the VPMSC to come to the realization that it would be impossible for the Club to host the 2010 Blue Light Ride. My membership has not taken this lightly, but they are all aware that it would be irresponsible to put the good name of the Victoria Police Motor Sports Club to an event that does not live up to the level expected by you, our entrants, or that does not meet the requirements imposed on such a large event. This is not only to maintain the Victoria Police motor Sports Club's reputation but also to ensure the safety of the entrants and that they are completely covered in the event that something goes wrong.
